first boat ride (24 Dec 2020)

I thought these would be nice pictures to start the blog off with this year!! Here is Taska’s first boat ride. As you can tell, she really enjoyed it. She absolutely loves to feel the wind on her face.

She sat very comfortably on the boat throughout the 5 minute journey on blue waters to the resort on the cove.

She also got a chance to set paw on the dive ship, which is much bigger than this small motorboat. The day following when this photo was taken, my family and I experienced open water diving for the first time (a story I will tell more about very soon). Taska, unfortunately, could not join us underwater but instead had to wait patiently on the boat in the middle of the South China Sea for us.

Bearcat (Binturong)

This photo was taken 2 years ago at Lok Kawi Wildlife Zoo (Sabah) during the animal show. This talented bearcat crossed the rope right above my seating row and hung upside down using its tail. The performance was a surprise and frightened me and my friends seated right below it! I was lucky enough to capture a quick shot before this bearcat walked(?) away.

Taipei Zoo

  • Taipei Zoo is one of 16 that is home to giant pandas. There are 3 here in Taipei Zoo.
  • African giraffe
  • The African elephants here are huge compared to the Asian elephants that are found back at my home.
  • This black and white ruffed lemur made quite a ruckus when it was squabbling with a ring-tailed lemur over some food. All the noise caused the birds overhead us to get such a fright that they actually pooped. My poor mother was unfortunate enough to get a big splat right on her head.
  • I couldn’t help laughing when I found out that these penguins are called jackass penguins. A couple moments later I found out exactly why they deserve this name when they started acting up and braying like donkeys.
  • I tried looking all over to find this fellas name but my search was unsuccessful (if you know please let me know!). This lizard looked so adorable basking contently in the light. It’s still pose gave me an opportunity to try out different settings to get the perfect temperature. For this shot I used scene: dawn/dusk. I found that this setting was an easy way to capture the warm colour of the light when you’re hard pressed for time.
  • Yet another unnamed reptile. This fella scurried along the sandy floor in it’s enclosure really quickly with it’s tiny legs.
  • Searched up for this tortoise’s name until some really ridiculous searches popped up. I wish I would’ve known I was going to blog when I was visiting Taipei and could’ve taken photos of the plaques.
  • I think this is an Asian Water Dragon. Fun fact: It’s amazing how much effort I have put into looking for these lizards’ names when I am very creeped out by lizards in general.
  • Green crested basilisk
